Put your iPod into Disk Mode and connect it to your computer. It should show up as a drive in "My Computer". Set your folder options to view hidden/system files. Look for a file called iPod_ControlDevice_locked. Delete it then reboot the iPod.

This happened to me once.1st- if you downloaded music from like limewire, your itunes might be messed up. *If you didn't download illegally, skip to step 3.
2nd-redownload itunes (doing this will lose all your movies/music) and resync your ipod to the new itunes.
3rd-Connect ipod to ypur computer and in itunes, click on your ipod and click restore. *If you can't restore and it has a error, go to step 4.
4th- Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time until you see the Apple logo to reset your ipod. Than go back to step 3.

you dont have to go through the jailbreak proccess. just turn off the ipod, plug into computer, hold down the power button for 3 seconds then without letting go of power hold down the home button for 10 seconds, then let go of the power button still holding the home button for 10 - 30 seconds (until the ipod goes into restore mode, it will say that its in restore mode in itunes if done correctly.
